I used 1/2” strips of acrylic on the ends to support the roof.   Then I used some more to build roof trusses.

Here you can just make them out in front of the building.  I’ve reinforced them with a couple of 1/4” acrylic strips, but they’re very difficult to see.

I use the roof supports on the building end for a template to make sure that all of them are the same size; one is clamped to the end as it dries.

The roof is in two pieces.   I remove the protective sheet from one side and clamp the roof truss in place and then apply the liquid acrylic cement.  It seeps in between and dissolves the acrylic to form a very strong bond.

Both sides of the roof have been glued to the trusses and I’ve added additional support.

The paper is removed and glue is applied along the seam on both sides.

It’s pretty sturdy with the strips and even better - the roof fits!

I’ve painted the backdrop for the sign, although it will not be added until the building is completely painted.    I think the spray will adhere better to the bare plastic, plus it was easier to spray before I add more details.

The roof is made from non skid material, such as you might see on skateboards.   It comes in a roll and is about a foot high.  I cut it into strips 2 1/2” wide - this makes them close to 4’ x 20’ in scale.

I used a black glue to simulate tar over the joints.
