Jackson & Burke Railroad

Thanks for stopping by. Enjoy my site.

I have 23 boxcars.

I prefer boxcars as they look the same whether they are empty or loaded.   Many are lettered for the Jackson & Burke, others from freinds' railroads that I have operated on - it's a great way to remember old friends.

My first boxcar was an AMS boxcar, in 1:20 scale.  I decided that my boxcars would be numbered in the 100 series; this starts my fleet at #101.

It’s a very nicely detailed model and led the way to my total conversion to 1:20 scale.

I re-lettered it for the J&B. My later lettering did not include all of the data;  for operations, I really only need roadname and number.

This is another AMS car that I numbered at 103, but I lettered it for Doug Matheson’s Northland Railroad in Ottawa, Canada.

I met Doug via the Internet and he introduced me to operations in Canada.

Boxcars

#19 was made from a Phil Dippel kit.

It’s lettered for Fred Mill’s IPP&W railroad in Ottawa, Canada.

We visit there annually to operate on his large outdoor layout.

I scratch-built several of these (#104, #105, #106) all styrene boxcars based upon an East Broad Top (EBT) prototype.

Most of it is scribed styrene sheet with wood roof walk and brass grab irons and ladder.

An article detailing how to build this was published  in the August 2007 issue of Garden Railways.   Click here for a build log.

Another series of scratch built boxcar (#110, 111, 112, 113), uses cast resin ends that I got from Bob McCown at LargeScaleCentral.com.
